In response to the Central Bank’s OMO for siphoning off the additional liquidity from the market, the banks offered to buy treasury bills worth Rs13.50 billion for two days, while the Central Bank lifted all the offers at 6 percent rate of interest.

Money market dealers said that following the inflow of Rs27 billion in the banking system on maturities, the Central Bank went on OMO for absorbing this liquidity. Dealers said that the Central Bank could further resort to OMO.

PESHAWAR: Frontier Constabulary (FC) has begged excused of posting its personnel at Nato Terminals.

FC Deputy Commandant, Rahmat Khan told Geo News that FC didn’t possess enough personnel that could enable it to post its men for the security of terminals. He said that FC was striving to help the police in this regard. Rahmat Khan told that FC main responsibility was to safeguard the borders of the tribal and administered areas and with the existing strength, FC personnel could not be posted for the security of the terminals. Rahmat Khan, commenting on the NWFP government’s demand for the 10 platoons from the federation, said that this demand was not appropriate. It may be recalled that Nato Terminals during the last few days had witnessed five devastating attacks, which thus far inflicted heavy loss of life and materials.

CHENNAI: Chasing 316, India were all out for 241 runs giving England a lead of 75 runs in the second innings on Day 3 of the Chennai Test. Skipper MS Dhoni was the top scorer with 53 runs.

Harbhajan Singh’’s wicket triggered India’’s collapse as soon after his dismissal Zaheer Khan and skipper MS Dhoni walked back to the pavilion to reduce India to 241 for nine wickets on Day 3 of the Chennai Test.

After resuming the third day with their overnight score of 155/6, Dhoni and Harbhajan added 75 runs for the seventh wicket before the latter was dismissed by Monty Panesar for 40 runs. He chipped a tossed up delivery from Panesar straight to Ian Bell at short leg.

While Harbhajan missed out on a fifty, Dhoni played a captain’’s knock and slammed 14th Test fifty, his fourth against England, to take India’’s score past 200 runs. He perished as Panesar’’s second victim of the day when he came down the track to send the ball out but ended up being caught by Kevin Pietersen at long off for 53 runs.

Zaheer contributed just 1 run to the score as Andrew Flintoff caught him plumb with his inswinger.
